How do people feel about Shakespeare today?
Favorite Answer
I, however… Well, for starters, I love the fluidity and elegance of the language, as well as the puns he makes. Shakespeare also tends to write with a point in mind – he doesn’t flounder in his plays. He also has the redeeming characteristic of not always going by the stereotype. (I’m doing the Merchant of Venice now.) On the other hand, his language may be hard to understand because of the change in English over time, though that’s easily solved with the help of a study guide and a good dictionary. Shakespeare is, well, if not so entertaining (although I find it so), very good study material. To quote my teacher: “If you haven’t studied Shakespeare, you haven’t studied English.”
Hope it helped.
