First of all Footnotes must be listed numerically and consecutively, both in your essay and in your Footnote citation. Footnote numbers must be superscripted. In your text, add a superscripted number immediately after the quote or reference cited with no space.

Here are some examples:

2 G. Wayne Miller, King of Hearts: The True Story

of the Maverick Who Pioneered Open Heart Surgery

(New York: Times, 2000) 245.

(only the 2 at the front will be superscripted at the left upper corner of the G.)

———————

Here is another example:

If this is what you had in your paper –

An interesting reference was made to the picking of corn on the Sabbath.8

Than the footnote would look like this:

8 Matthew 12:1-8.

***The 8 will be superscripted in both the text and the footnote.

Hope this helps you a bit.

in the research part of the paper, make a superscript at the end of the sentence/word that you want to make a footnote for. footnotes go at the very bottom of a page. each idea should be numbered with the corresponding superscript from the research part.

that way, when reading your paper, the reader will see the superscript after a word/sentence and drop down to the bottom of the page to see other information you wrote concerning the word/sentence/etc.

if you’re typing your research paper in microsoft word or some other word processor, depending on what version of course, go to view and look for header and footer. on microsoft word 2007 click the insert tab and the ‘footer’ button is along the top near the middle. a text box will appear at the bottom of the page in which you write whatever footnotes you need.

if you’re handwriting your paper, if you have enough room at the very bottom of the page after everything, then write footnotes there.

for example:

(with the ^2 as the superscript)

“research research research research… and that is how you boil water” ^ 2 “research research research”

(in the footer)

2. make sure not to stick hands into the boiling water

i think they go at the bottom of the paper on the pages you used the footnotes for. if you have microsoft word than you can find under the menu what action to use. sorry if i don’t make any sense.
