(- 4)(5m+2)-3m

=-20m-8-3m

=-20m-3m-8

= -23m-8

5x – 2x(x+7)

=5x-2x^2-14x

=-2x^2+5x-14x

=-2x^2-9x or -x(2x-9)

For the first one:

Multiply -4 times 5m and then -4 times 2

-20m-8 -3m

Then you can subtract the two m

-23m -8

For the second one:

multiply -2x times x then times 7

This causes the x to be squared.

then add the x’s

2xsquared -9x

If there are brackets with no sign in between you multiply them, always do whats in the brackets first.

so you multiply -4 by 5xm+2 and from that you minus -3xm

then you find out what x=7 is and times it by 2 and what 5times x is and minus the answers.

I am not a maths genius so this may not be right!!!
