To do this, you basically solve for x, and then swap x and y.

I’m afraid it is very complicated, but it can be done. You’d have to solve this equation for y, using the cubic formula:

If this was assigned in your algebra class, you may want to ask your teacher for clarification or to double check the problem – you would not know how to do this.

If you’d like to solve it, it can be solved, but it turns out to be:

Of course, you then generally switch x and y, but I’m not going to make a second picture with x’s instead of y’s.
