(x-1)/(x+5) = 7/9

1. multiply both sides by (x+5)

x-1= 7/9 * (x +5)

2. multiply both sides by 9

9(x-1) = 7(x +5)

3. distribute the 9 and 7

9x – 9 = 7x +35

4. Add 9 to both sides

9x = 7x + 44

5. Subtract 7x from both sides

2x = 44

6. Divide both sides by 2 to get your final answer

x = 22

cross multiply, and regard x-1 as a unit, and x+5 as a unit. It looks like:

9(x-1) = 7(x+5)

can you finish it now?

(x-1)/ (x +5) = 7/9 —> just cross multiply

7(x+5) = 9(x-1) —-> distribute the equation

7x+35 = 9x-9

35+9 = 9x-7x

44 = 2x

x= 22

try to substitute the value you got to check if you got it right. =)
