How did they get this answer (Prealgebra homework)?

The answer I got on the problem is 62.66 and on the answer sheet they want it written as 62 2/3. I am taking a adult online math course and do not remember how to turn it into a fraction like that HELP

When dividing, stop dividing when you reach the decimal point. Just express the remainder as a fration. Thus, when you divide 400 by 6, you will get 66 remainder 4.

The remainder is really 4 divided by 6. In fraction, that is 4/6 or 2/3.

So that gives you 66 and 2/3 as your answer.

Note: 2/3 iws more accurate than 0.66666

The general answer would be to take the decimal and put it over 100 and simplify it to the lowest possible numbers. Example: If you had 66.60 take 60/100, divide by 10 to get 6/10, then simplify to the lowest possible numbers to get 3/5. This produces an answer of 66 3/5.

?
right, as its a decimal, you can only go up to 0.99 before it goes to the next whole number, ok?

therefore, instead of putting 66/100, you put

66/99

divide both the top and bottom by 33, and you’ll get

2/3

hope this helps =]
