homework help with kinematics…..pls help me out!?

A horse canters away from its trainer in a straight line, moving 130 m away in 16.0 s. It then turns abruptly and gallops halfway back in 4.4 s. Calculate its average speed and Calculate its average velocity for the entire trip, using “away from the trainer” as the positive direction.

I’m really struggling with it…

speed away from trainer = 130 m / 16 s = 8.125 m/s

speed towards trainer = 65 m / 4.4 s = 14.773 m/s

average speed = (8.125 m/s + 14.773 m/s)/2 = 11.45 m/s

average velocity = (8.125 m/s – 14.773 m/s)/2 = -3.324 m/s
