Homework Help?
First of all, What is impulse? The book keeps talking about it but I just dont get it.
1. A boxer can hit a heavy punching bag for hours without tiring but tires after only a few minutes while boxing with an opponent. Why?
2. Your friend says your conservation of momentum is violated when you step off your chair and gain momentum as you fall, what do you say?

I’m not sure what the answer for number 1 is. If this wasn’t a physics question, I’d say it had to do with the fact that the bag was stationary and the opponent wasn’t.
For two I would say that the sum of the impulses equals zero once I hit the ground. I’d also say that since the Earth was also falling towards me (yes this is true), then the total momentum prior to me stepping off the chair is equal to if after the event.
