This is how it went down, from memory, I was in AP World last year. King John had all the power and was taking advantage of oh…hmmm… EVERYONE. Which for King John was a pretty sweet deal, but sucked for everyone else. So all fuedal lords were fed up with the King and his taxes and got him in a field and made him sign the Magna Carta which gave the lords some rights. Many historians believe this was the first step towards what we consider modern democracy. However, the Magna Carta is hardly a civil rights document. It limits what the king could do, and strengthened the rights of the fuedal lords.

SO it pretty much sucked hard for King John.
