1. It was a genocide and a mass murder.
2. Too many people lost their lives and too many people were tortured for this to just be pushed into oblivion.

Besides the obvious stated, we should study the Holocaust for the main reason that we study history in general: to prevent the same events from happening again. This event was based on the race (and religion) of one group of people whom one man decided that he did not care for for a variety of reasons. We need to prevent this type of mentality from taking over again–however, it already has started again in places like Africa.
We also need to remember the events of the Holocaust because it is the only way that we can remember the lives of those that we taken so tragically. Visit the United States Holocaust Museum online for more assistance.
