History Essay?

Is it okay in history to have a 4 paragraph essay rather than a 5? The reason I ask, is that I have to write an essay that, shows why christopher columbus can be considered both a success and a failure. so i have an intro, a success, a failure, and a conclusion paragraph and i cant think of a way to add another body paragraph and i know in english thats what would be expected, but is it okay in history to break form?

As long as you answer the question fully, with a proper introduction and conclusion, I would say that 4 paragraphs would be fine.

I think you need another paragraph. What you MIGHT do is consider the political ramifications with respect the Roman Catholicism. This is the WHOLE impetus for the exploration of the New World. Since the Pope made a mark of demarcation, giving everything EAST to the Portugese and everything WEST to the Spaniards, once charged with the duty to explore and discover, the “Crusading Queen” (Isabella) pawned her own jewels to finance such an undertaking (remember this is the same woman who brought the Spanish Inquisition to Spain in order to remove heretics and Jews and drove the Moors out of Spain after 700 years of Al Andalus). Although Columbus was LOOKING for the so-called Northwest Passage, what he found was a far more valuable prize. By finding the so-called New World, not only did this open up a whole new continent for plunder on the part of the Spanish BUT it also appealed to Isabella’s piety, since it allowed her to engage in a po licy of mass conversion, one that continued as long as the Spanish held these territories.,

you could write a paragraph on family.

I think that it’s okay to have 4. i suppose it depends if your teacher would take off marks for only 4

Good Luck

4 paragraphs seems short. just add another reason for success.

is the professor strict? if the professor is picky (which some are) they might count off if it was written specifically in the directions. but some are more laid back and won’t care if you did a good paper.

I would consult your teacher, as they have the final say.
