I don’t understand what B-90 degrees has to do with the problem.
You do need to know what quadrant angle A is in, so you know whether cotangent is positive or negative.
I’ll assume A is in the first quadrant.
cos A = adjacent / hypotenuse = 3/8
You can find the opposite side using the Pythagorean theorem.
(opp)^2 + 3^2 = 8^2
(opp)^2 + 9 = 64
(opp)^2 = 55
opp = sqrt(55)
cot A = adjacent / opposite = 3/sqrt(55)
