well they figured they were so far north of where they wanted to be (Virgina Colony) that they were not under the jurisdiction of the Virginian colonists, hence the writing of the Mayflower Compact. Then since they were all pretty much failures when it came to farming or just working in general (they were mostly rich and didn’t want to work) most of them died in the first winter. Then Squanto comes to help them and we all know the story of the first Thanksgiving and the corn/bean/squash planting combo. THEN they take Squanto back to England with them and when they come back his tribe is all dead from smallpox (or measles, i don’t remember). The Pilgrims then keep going with more and more shiploads of people being brought in, and the rest the say, is history!
