Simile use either “as” or “like”. It is a comparison.

Metaphor is a figured speech, an expression of feelings.

Now, your simile:

“My friends are as caring as I am, and that’s why we get along so well.”

“My friends are caring people like no others I know.”

Your simile changed into a metaphor:

“My friends are giants; my kind of people.”

-(they are not really giants… a metaphor, a figured speech.)-

“My friends are vessels through this world full of pain, and that’s why I love them so.”

-(your friends are not really vessels through the world as the human body is. It’s a figured speech describing how caring they are.)-

I hope your homework gets in on time with flying colors.. And, I hope you don’t think it’s sort of lame… but, I worked on them really fast with your own sentences…Good luck!

My friends are as caring as a mother lioness. (When the sentence has as or like- it is a simile. To change it into a metaphor, you have to take out the as or like. To make it a metaphor you would say:

My friends are mother lionesses.
