Topic sentences are tricky sometimes. I won’t give you actual sentences, because I don’t know about any of your experiences. Think of something specific. Lets say for 1, a spider crawled up your leg. So think of your main idea.

One day, a spider crawled up my leg.

Think like you would talk to your friends. You wouldn’t come up to them and say, “it was black and hairy and so gross”. You would say, “eww guys, A SPIDER CRAWLED UP MY LEG LAST NIGHT” (the bold being what you would use as a topic sentence). Hope I helped. =]

It’s hard to make up a topic sentence without knowing what you are going to write – but the topic sentence is a little bit like a commercial for the story, or the essay, that follows it. It tells you a little bit about what is to come, and teases you to read more.

For example, if you were writing about extra-curricular activities, you might beging something like this:

Freedom! After a full day cooped up in school, the final bell rang, setting free the class of thirty restless teens – anxious to get on with their ‘real’ lives.

Then you could go on to talk about extra-curricular activities and say whatever you want about them.

You would do the same with each of those topics. Just pretend you are writing an ad for the story….

good luck

Hi,

1-This whole experience has been pretty scary,I always get freaked out when I can’t remember things . Last night when I was walking beside the beach………

2-My favorite teacher is like a dream to me . She believes in me , tugs , pushes and leads me to the next plateau, sometimes poking me with a sharp stick called (truth).

3-Nothing was really worrying me except how and when I can find time and a suitable partner for my new school dance that is due in ………

4-Traveling to Canada can be really thrilling . I have a long story to tell………..

5-With an extra – curricular activities , I can really give myself another chance for both my learning and making wonderful friends .

Hope this helps.

1.) It was a Tuesday, and I knew something was terribly wrong.

2.) When I was in ____ grade, I knew I’d never forget Mr/Ms.____.

3.) Looking at the clock, I only had 3 hours to get ready for the school dance.

4.) Traveling is one of my favorite things to do, especially in Canada.

5.) Although school is enough to handle, I love participating in extra-curricular activities.

Emotions are always good, but to be safe, I would make sure the topic has to do heavily with the conclusion of the paragraph. If it is a sad experience the topic could be “The time I wept.” So on and so forth.
