Help with horribly complicated math problems (at least for me)?

1. Of one pint of paint is needed to paint a statue that is 6 feet high, how many pints of paint are needed to paint 540 statues similar to the original statue but only 1 foot high?

2. Find the time between 3 and 4 o’clock when the minute hand and the hour hand are 35 degrees apart.

3. At noon a train leaves New York for Toronto while another leaves Toronto for New York. It takes one train 8 hours and the other train 22 hours to make the trip. Both maintain constant speeds. At what time do they pass?

4. If f(x) = x^2 + 2 find the sum and difference of the roots (solutions) fo the equation: f(f(x) + 3 f(x) = xf(x) + f(x)

5. Tom can paint the house in 3 hours. Becky can paint it in 4 hours. Huck can paint the house in 6 hours. If they work together, what is their rate per hour? How long would it take them to paint the house?

5. Tom does 1/3 of the job in an hour, Becky does 1/4 and Huck does 1/6 so together they do 4/12 + 3/12 + 2/12 = 9/12 or 3/4 of the job per hour. You can use this to answer the second part.

the first question you need to break up pints into ounces then divide them by the number of feet. For example take (not true numbers) if there are 6 oz in a pint then divide 6/6 you get one thus it takes 1 oz to paint a one foot statue.

second. geometry not my cup of tea sorry

third. find out the mileage between the two locations then you can figure it out

fourth. can’t help there

fifth. thats an averaging question

3)

let speed of train a be Va and other one Vb

Distance is same

Va = D/Ta = D/8

Vb = D/Tb = D/22

The location of a at time t (in hours) is (da) the distance from New York

da = Va x t = (D/8) t = Dt/8

likewise also disance from New York of b

db = D – Vb x t = D – Dt/22 = D(1 – t/22)

at what time are these the same?

da = db

Dt/8 = D(1 – t/22)

t/8 = (1 – t/22)

t =

add this to 12:00
