Help with composite functions?

1. Which function or process is performed 1st in the composite function f(g(x))? Is it g(x)?

2. How would you simply the composite fuction f(g(x))? Is f(x)g(x) rite?

3. Will f(g(x)) = g(f(x))? No rite?

1)With composites you start with the inside and work your way out. So yes you start with g(x)

2) no. A composite is not the same as a product of the functions. You can’t do much with simplifying unless you know what the funtions are.

3) f(g(x)) = g(f(x)) is true only for inverse funtions such as f(x)=x² and g(x)=√x, then the composites each way both come out x. But in general they are not equal.

1. in f(g(x) you are basically solving for g(x) first if you break it down. you could either A. solve for g [if you know what x is] and then substitue the range [y value] you get from g into the domain [x value] of f(x) to get the answer. or, if you dont have any numbers, substitue g in for the x of f. so if f(x) = 3x-4 and g(x) = 2x+3 then f(g(x) = 3(2x+3)-4. so i guess g(x) is performed first

2. i think f(x)g(x) means multiply f and g. how about you say

(f o g)(x) just to make sure.

3. no. im sure it is possible, but i think you have to have a certain equation for both g and f. so no, it will not.

a million) g(x) = sqrt(x) g(f(x)) = sqrt(x+2) sqrt(x+2) is defined such that x>=-2 seeing that sqrt of a detrimental type is undefined subsequently the area is all actual nos such x>=2 2. assume f(x)= -4x+3 and g(x)= a million/x+2 evaluate f(g(x)) and g(f(x)) for x. word any regulations. f(x) = -4x + 3 f(g(x)) = -4(a million/x + 2) + 3 the area is all actual nos such that x isn’t equivalent to 0 g(x) = a million/x + 2 g(f(x)) = a million/(-4x +3) + 2 -4x + 3 should not be 0 or -4x + 3 <> 0 -4x <> -3 x<>3/4 the area is all actual nos such that x isn’t equivalent to 3/4

1. yes G(x) is the first function…remember the saying (for order of opperations)

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally..

Parenthases

Exponets

Multiplication

Division

Addition

Subtraction

2…I’m unsure, will have to figure it out

3…is correct

example

F=2

G=3

X=4

F(G(X))

2(3(4))

3×4=12

2×12=24

G(F(X))

3(2(4))

2×4=8

3×8=24
