Help on science hw?

can someone give me the definition of reference point? it came out in science..in like the section called MOTION

and uh how can the displacement of an object be zero while the distance it travled was 150 m?

and one last question (srry) how could u use pics from a security camera to determine if an object had been moved from one hour to the next, using a tree as a refrence point?

a reference point is place or object used for comparison to determine if an object is in motion

Ugh i remember doing this last year lol so i’m not quite sure but all i remember is a displacement is the shortest distance from one point to another

Because the tree is a reference and from that you can figure out how far the object is by using the tree as a reference.

LOL im just winging this so don’t get mad if it’s wroung

reference point means the starting point or the baseline

displacement means the amount of movement of an object measured in a particular direction; if an object traveled at a distance of 150 m, but came back at its reference point/starting point, then there is 0 displacement. (its like walking for 150 meters in a circle wherein you stopped at the exact place where you started off… hope I’m making sense..)

you can determine if an object has moved by measuring the distance between the object and the tree and compare the distances you gathered from the 2 photos. If the distance is the same, then the object has not been moved.

Im not sure about reference point , but i think it’s a point that you choose to be your X0 so that you can calculate other things like velocity desplacement according to this point. for example an abject travels 70 m and it takes 2 sec to travel this distance if you want to calculate the V which is displacement over time . since you don’t have your starting point you choose it to be X0 = 0 , so that you can calculate V which becomes V = 70/2.

dx (displacement of an object) = X2 – X1

If an object travels from (for example) X1 and it goes back to that point although it has traveled some distances but the displacement becomes zero,
