Global Geography Help?

Well, I have this assignment due tomorrow, here’s the question:

“Has the world’s interdependence lead to a led to a loss in individual countries unique cultures?”

I think it has, but now I have to come up with 3 supporting reasons, complete with facts and examples:S

I’m havinga really hard time, any help would be greatly appreciated:)

That’s a tough one. I’m kind of on the fence about it. Part of me thinks yes — because of Westernization. Certain countries want to be more like America, for example. The population from that original country changes it’s traditional habits to be more of those of an American way of life.

Another part of me thinks that because of the worlds interdependence it has led people to want to show their culture even more. People want to be proud of their home countries.

I could go either way. Tough call! Good luck!

Ancient cultures are changing and phasing out at an alarming rate. It is well known that the young people of Japan have adopted the American hip hop culture in music and in the way they dress. This takes them away from more cultural ways of dressing. Of course, once you change the way a person views themselves and their ‘culture’ you also tend to change the way a person thinks.

African cultures are changing too. Many African tribal people are changing their ancient ways and choosing to live life elsewhere. They view their tribal life as out dated and undesireable. Much like what has happened in the American Indian cultures here in The United States. Young people are moving to bigger cities, seeking more modern educations, and choosing to follow opportunities that lead them far from their ancient cultures. Some manage to find a balance between the two, but elders will confess, (when asked and interviewed on documentaries), that they are witnessing a dying of their culture.

Technology has done quite a lot to change the behavior of the entire world. With a click of the mouse a person can literally be thousands of miles away in a foreign land connecting with people through conversation on the internet. They exchange ideas, share information, and learn about each other in ways that were never before possible. The more the world becomes comforatable interacting this way, the smaller the world becomes. I predict a time in the future when we will not think of each other in such divisional ways, but come together and recognize the struggles of living on this planet as people striving for shared goals.

How about the recent problem with Chinese paint on toys.

Many toys are made in China, but the US knows that lead in paint is not good for small children if they put it in their mouth. China probably has used this type of paint for years, but now they will have to stop and change because it creates such a problem elsewhere that they will not be able to sell their products until they change.

Also blue jeans. They are exported to many countries now and when girls wear them in certain countries they are looked down on and shamed because this is changing their culture.
