Environmental Science questions?

If a population of an organishm is growing exponentially, and from 1910 to 1970 it doubled in size, in what year would you expect it to be 16 times as large as it was in 1910?

Imagine a population of ragweed that is growing with r= 0.24. At the start of 1991, the population was 93 individuals. If ‘r’ remains constant, how many ragweed will be present at the start of 2005?

Imagine a population of daisies that is growing exponentially. At the start of 1995, the population was 104 individuals. At the start of 2004, there were 1350 individuals. Assuming ‘r’ remains constant, calculate ‘r’.

In terms of population growth, what is lat time? MIght humans experience lag time as they approach their environmental carrying capacity? Or do we not have a carrying capacity?

You’ve merely handed us your homework — where are you having problems? Simply answering the problems for you would be cheating.

Your text and notes should contain examples of determining the doubling time or other growth rate of a population — and how to use those in problems like the ones above. Where are you having trouble with that? Let us know, and we’ll get you over the hard part.

For the last one, you’ll have to go back to the text and look up “lag time”. Work from there.
