Enkidu’s Dream of the Underworld?

I have to do a project where I pick a song and play it in class while describing how it relates to Enkidu’s Dream of the Underworld. Example: The drums in this part of the song depict the look of fear on Enkidu’s face. I was wondering what song to use. Try not to post songs with words.

Enkido is standing before a scary being with a vampire face and other macabre features, so I think you want a suspense/ horror instrumental. But you’re also dealing with the Epic of Gilgamesh, an ancient Near East narrative, so you’d want it to be a primitive sound – ideally something with a middle eastern sound.

Based on that, something like Gabrielle Roth would work well. You can find it at most large chains (or ITunes I’d guess). She makes primal, suspenseful music that fits here. If you buy a CD check look in the New Age section; on ITunes look for a CD titled “Fire” and just sample tracks to see if you like it. Or you could just look for a middle east section at a music store and pick out an instrumental.

The BEST bet is anything by a band called “Goblin” who is famous for making super scary music for movies. “Suspiria” is scariest (but starts out deceptively unscary!). And it has a dream-like quality. That would be my #1 choice. That could be hard to find at a music store- but probably on ITunes.

If you want something more modern and that’s a little more mellow, anything by Rapoon (techno/ambient section at a music store). It’s reeeeal creepy stuff and no words. Easy to find on ITunes I think. The main thing is, whatever you get, it has to be creepy and ancient, but have a punch to it because the creature whisks Enkido away.
