Kwan hiked up a hill at 4 km/h and back down at 6 km/h. His total hiking time was 3 hours. How long did the trip up the hill take him?

x+y=3 time up the hill plus time down the hill is 3 hours
4x=6y the distance covered going up with 4km/h for x hours is equal to the distance covered going down with 6km/h for y hours.
from these two equations we will find x, and y.
4(3-y)=6y
12-4y=6y
12=10y
y=12/10
y=1.2 hours
x=3-1.2=>>1.8 hours
x is the time up the hill hence, answer is 1.8 hours
