As a result of Rocester’s decision to save his wife and Jane’s decision to return, the couple had equality, a running theme between them. Rochester was wealthy with social standing but blind and dependant and Jane returned with money and left with the moral highground. Because Rochester was a widower, she could marry him morals and self-esteem intact.

You may want to look for a brief overview of morality. Situation ethics bases it’s decisions on the best choice considering the results. It is a modern Christian outlook which says that you should abandon rules when there is a more loving thing to do. Immanuel Kant says there should be hard and fast rules that you should be able to apply. To be moral you have to follow the rules and do your duty (Categorical Imperative). Should be useful when considering whether each decision is a moral one. Wikipedia sums them up.
