I think in general they shouldn’t be paid. School sports are voluntary for the most part and it’s the athletes who are gaining from the facilities and coaching, not the school.
Exceptions might be elite class athletes. If you’re training for hours a day, winning national competitions etc. I don’t think it’s unfair to get a sports scholarship at school to recognise the commitment and time you’re putting in but it shouldn’t be a case of ‘I turned up to practice, pay me 5 quid’.

no one forces you to, and it’s more like they are giving us opportunities for letting us join sports teams.
