The conflict of the story is when leiningen (forgot name) tries everything he can to stop the ants. This is a good conflict involving man vs. nature

For example, he draws off some of the ants by building a canal around his plantation. However soon the ants begin crossing over. Then he uses fuel to burn the ants but it seems to have no effect. Finally, he floods his plantation, killing all of the ants and ruining his plantation.

Edit: Yes, the ants did eat his horse, massive amounts of ants cover the horse and soon all that was left was the bones so you basicall call the ants “meat eating ants”. Really creepy

The conflict is between the hero and the ants. He tries to save his home from an enormous swarm of ants, but they just keep coming and coming. I cannot remember the resolution to the story, but I recall that the ants ate his horse.
