The SONG of birds RINGS in the air.

Or The songs of birds RING in the air.

Betty is going to the game, BUT her brother is staying home.

Both Carlos and Joan love basketball.

1 and 3 Bascially you’re making the verb agree with the subject. If you have a singular subject (like one person, place or thing), then you will have a verb that ends with an “s”. If you have a plural subject (more than one person, place or thing), your verb will not end in “s”.

2 “and” means that both are the same, “but” indicates a difference.

I don’t really get it. It seems pretty correct to me. I’ll just try it differently.

The bird’s song ring in the air.

Betty is going to the game, while her brother is staying home.

Carlos, as well as Joan, loves basketball.

=)??

The song of birds rings in the air. — song is the subject and is singular, therefore the verb (ring) must also be singular.

Betty is going to the game and her brother is staying at home. — uh, I guess it just needed the prepositional phrase, instead of the colloquial use which does not contain a prepositon?

Carlos, as well as Joan, loves basketball. — again, the verb needs to match the subject.

Seriously, I may be a college junior English major, but these sentences were simple. Do your own damn homework.
