Correct subject -verb agreement?
“They had planned to have adopted a girl, but they got twin boys”
can you tell me how to re write the sentence above that the subject and verb must agree in numbers.
you cannot add or change words in the sentense. that’s what my teacher said.
thank you so much.

They had planned to adopt a girl, but they got twin boys.
I didn’t add any new word…I just change “to have adopted” to simply “to adopt” – a verb in its infinitive form
or
They had planned to adopt a girl, but they had gotten twin boys.
This is actually better because both your verbs (in the 2 independent clauses) are in the same tense now. Go for this one!
