Chemistry homework help?

Okay so chemistry is definately not my strong point.

Anyway were doing the basics right now.. and I’m already lost.

So I don’t understand wht numbers the atomic number, it’s the top right? and the atomic mass number is the bottom one right?!

anyways how do i figure out the number of protons, and neutrons, and electrons?! like i know what they are and where they are and stuff, but i really don’t understand how you figure this stuff out by that! and how do you find out what element it is when all you recieve is the number of neutrons and the mass number?!

please any help would be awesome!!!!!!

The atomic number is the number of protons AND electrons, since they both have to be the same for it to be an element. For example, if carbon has an atomic number of 6, then it has 6 protons and 6 electrons (that is actually true).

To figure out the number of nertrons, find the atomic mass (should be some long decimal, just round it to the closest whole number to eliminate decimals). Subtract the atomic number FROM the estimated (rounded) atomic mass to get number of neutrons. Example: Carbon has 6 protons & 6 electrons. To get the number of neutrons, look at the atomic mass (12.999 or something, idk). Round it to 13 and subtract 13 minus 6 and you get 7. Seven neutrons, six protons, and six electrons in the element carbon. Easy.

Protons and Electrons always have the same number. So all you really have to worry about are the neutrons…

Z = Atomic # = #Protons (TOP)

A= Mass # (BOTTOM)

A = (# of protons) +( # of neutrons)

#Neutrons = 28

Atomic # = Z = 24

28+24 = 52

A-Z = #Neutrons

52-24 = 28
