America’s healthcare system works thusly:

Instead of having the government take care of everyone, causing delays in healthcare, mediocre service, and poor care, citizens pay for their own doctors unless they have health insurance.

Health insurance is commonly purchased by employers, the self-employed, or individual citizens because the costs of health care are ever-rising. Thus, if you need to go to a doctor, when you have insurance, you would most likely pay a small deductable (around $500 usually) and then your insurance company pays the remaining balance for your visit. This is especially effective because it keeps people from running to the doctor for every little thing (knowing they will have to pay a little on their own) and the insurance companies know that not everyone will need to have doctor’s visits every year.

There are places where the health care system is hard on some people. People whose employers can’t or won’t buy health insurance for them often go without, which means that when they go to the doctor, they end up having to pay the bill entirely on their own. This is very costly!

However, the way to fix this is not a national healthcare system. If we had a national healthcare system, it would take entirely too long to get in to see a doctor because people WOULD go in to the clinics for every little thing. In Canada, it can take up to 9 months to get an MRI scheduled. I recently had to have an MRI that was scheduled within one week of the first exploratory appointment. After the MRI, I had to have more tests and eventually a biopsy and surgery done to diagnose my cancer. This was all done in less than three weeks.

We found my cancer in the second stage. Can you imagine how much further it would have progressed if I had had to wait 9 months to get that first MRI?

basically you have health insurance through your employer that you pay so much out of every paycheck to. The insurance dictates what doctors you can go to, and if you need to go to the hospital, the doctor has to call the insurance company to get “preapproval.” then your insurance pays part of your bill (usually not all) then you are stuck paying the rest. Most insurances will pay so much of a prescription if you need it, sometimes they will pay it all. But a lot of people don’t have insurance, even if they work. Like if you work in a fast food restaurant or other low paying job, they usually don’t offer insurance. In that case you have to either pay all of your doctor expenses “out of pocket” which means all by yourself, or you have to find a free clinic to go to, or the Health Department, and they usually are staffed with doctors who volunteer their time. If you are pregnant or disabled and are low income, you can go on Medicaid, which is funded by the government but will only pay for the bare minimum of what you need done. In the case of pregnancy, you will get one ultrasound, and one doctor visit a month until your last month, then however many doctor visits the doctor wants you to come. It’s a screwed up system for sure, and there are a LOT of people who can’t afford health insurance but are still working.

[rant]You go to the doctor, they charge a fortune to the insurance company. You pay a $15 co-pay just to see the doctor, even if he just looks at you and says you are fine. Then, they tell you to come back in 3 weeks so they can charge you another $15. If you are sick or feeling down, they’ll prescribe medication that costs too much and make you come back after a few weeks. If you have to take medication for a long period of time, then they’ll make you come back every few months to renew your prescription so that they can charge you more.

Oh, and it takes like a month to get into the doctor’s office if it isn’t something needing immediate attention. And Heaven forbid you should have to stay in the hospital…that will really cost you some money.

Simple. They say they want you to get better, but they really don’t. They give up crappy drugs that do more harm than good. They use brainwashing style ads to get you on all this junk. They hide the truth about the real cures which are almost all-natural. All because of the money!
