Make it one sentence with a comma: “Media coverage of the war in Iraq has been a controversial topic in the media itself, especially the mainstream press and broadcast in the US and Canada.” The problem is that [especially the mainstream press and broadcast in the US and Canada] is not a complete sentence since there is no verb in there. Therefore, it’s can’t stand alone as its own sentence. It really should be connected to your first sentence anyway since it modifies it. Use the comma like I showed you!
