im really having trouble with my algebra; idk why im so confused. can someone just show me how to do a few examples please? thank you!

5(3x + 12) = -15

4 (2a + 2) -17 = -15

2x + 3/4 (4x + 16) = 7

ok.

example A-

5(3x + 12) = -15

you have to distribute the 5 into the parentheses by multiplying each thing by 5.

15x + 60= -15

Now we have to put the x on one side so subtract 60 from the left side and you have to subtract 60 from the right side then too.

15x= -75

Now divide both sides by 15.

x=-5

Example B- same idea. answer should be -.75

Example C- Same idea. distribute the 3/4 into the parenthese and at the end combine the 2 x total you get. The answer should be -1.

I have to go. hopefully someone will help on D.

5(3X+12)= -15

1. Apprentices go first so multiply the outside 3 all the way through –> 15x+ 60 = -15

2. Minus the 60 on the left to the -15 on the right so you get -75 b/c you want to get the x alone–> 15x= -75

3. Divide Both sides by 15 so you get X and that’s your answer –> -15/75=x (reduce that)

All the others are the same; the second one just minus the 17 from what ever number you get from mutipling 4(2a+2) and for the ones with fractions and you divide remember to multiply the reciprocal; so 3/4 / 7 is the same as 4/3 times 7/1

you have to distribute the numbers that are written before the parenthesis. You distribute by multiplying the one number before the parenthesis to the numbers inside the parenthesis.

Ex 1: You give the 5 to BOTH the 3x AND the 12. So you would do 5 times 3x, plus 5 times 12. You would rewrite it like this:

15x + 60 = -15

then you sove for x by subtracting 60 from both sides, so then you would have this:

15x = -75

Finally, you would solve for x by dividing both sides by 15:

x= -5

The two things you must remember are:

1st – Treat the = sign as a scale. To get to the correct answer you must keep both sides of the scale even. So if you subtract from one side do it to the other.

2nd – Memorize the order of operations. There are name tricks to help you, just look them up.

5(3x + 12) = -15

Divide both sides by 5

3x + 12 = -3

Subtract 12 from both sides

3x = -15

Divide both sides by 3

x = -5

The other examples are very similar.
