2) simplify using the Distributive Property (multiply 5 times

everything in the Parenthesis)

4x+20=5x+15

now move all the x terms to the left by adding or subtracting the same thing from both sides

4x-5x+20=5x-5x+15

-x+20=15

now move everything except x to the right

-x+20-20=15-20

-x=-5

multiply both sides by -1

x=5

4) first get x terms alone on the left by adding or subtracting the same thing from both sides

2x=11

now “undo” the 2 by doing the OPPOSITE of 2 times x (divide) both sides by 2

x=11/2

6) first use the Distributive Property

for example -5(3x+2)= -15x-10

(I recommend changing 3x-5(x+1) to 3x+(-5)(x+1) before using the Distributive Property)

then combine like terms by adding and subtracting the same thing from each side

next solve for x by multiplying or dividing both sides by the same number

x should = 7/8
