Esperanza Rising is about a girl named Esperanza who lives in Mexico as a wealthy land owner’s daughter. She lived with her mother father and grandmother until an unlucky event changes her life forever. Her father dies and her rich corrupt uncle tries to make her mother marry him if she wants to stay in Mexico and be wealthy. The uncle burns down the house to try and push Esperanza’s mother towards marrying him. That didn’t work though Esperanza and her mother escape to California with their servant friends to try and make a new life. Esperanza started off as a spoiled princess until her mother gets sick and she has to work hard to try and make money so she can buy medicine for her mother and send for her grandmother that they had to leave behind in Mexico because she was wounded. In the end Esperanza’s mothers heals and her grandmother comes to California with them and Esperanza learns it’s not how much you have but who you have with you.
