let x = pounds of copper to be added
0.2*20 = 4 = amount of copper in the 20 pounds of alloy
x + 4 = pounds of copper total
(20 + x) = pounds of the entire alloy
Since you want a 50% copper, you want the total pounds of copper to equal 1/2 of the entire alloy weight
Thus
x + 4 = 1/2(20 + x)
Solve for x
12 pounds of copper needed
