2x + 1 = -2x – 3

4x + 1 = -3

4x = -4

x = -1

2(x-1)+3=x-3(x+1)

2x-2+3=x-3x-3

x-2+3= -3x-3

x+3= -3x-1

4x+3= -1

4x= -4

x= -1

start by distributing.

2x-2+3=x-3x-3

then move all the x’s to one side and the #’s to the other.

4x=-4

divide by 4.

x=-1

when you want to check if you’re right, what you can do is plug your answer in for x and solve both sides. if they’re the same number, it’s right. if you have 2 different numbers on both sides, it’s wrong.

if you plug it back in the problem, you can check your work
