is the power of three inside or outside the parenthesis? like, is it for the x+8 or just the 8? & 3×3 is 9 right?

8^3 means 8 cubed, or 8X8X8.

So you need 9,234 divided by [3X3 X (1 + 8X8X8)]

Multiply 8X8X8; add 1 to the result.

You should be able to take it from there. And tell your teacher his (or her) notation is sloppy.

I like Jessica idea. But other than saying you will never use it. Say If by some once in a life time event i will have to use this i will just goto yahoo answers and ask someone that likes math. 😛

9234/[(3*3)(1+8^3)]

=9234/[(9)(1+512)]

=9234/[(9)(513)]

=9234/4617

=2

2 is the final answer, I believe.
