anyone know about the big different character of wallace in BRAVEHEART movie and the real history?tks?
Favorite Answer
Facts that coincide with the Movie:
1) Wallace is a National Hero of Scotland
2) Longshanks was the King of England
3) Robert the Bruce played the role best fit for how he was but did war (with his own band of Soldiers) against Longshanks for years and years
4) Longshanks son Edward 2 was gay
5) Longshanks did show up to Falkirk and destroyed the place as seen in the movie.
6) Scottish did win an unwinable victory at Stirling, but they made use of the Stirling Bridge hitting the English as they crossed disabling them to use their entire force at once. but for “cinematic” reasons the Bridge was left out of the movie.
7) Wallace did kill the sheriff’s and did take the village.
8) LongShanks WAS Ruthless, but then again the romanticized warriors were savage as well. It ain’t Medieval for nothing!
Reality Bites:
1)Wallace was about 6″7 and filled out and would have had a HUGE dirty beard
2)You notice where the Campbells(Hamish) and Wallace Clans are placed in the game?? well it makes sense that they weren’t best buddies as kids without airplanes lol, and they weren’t!
3) Uncle Argyle never existed and the Euro tour as a young boy never happened.
4) In 1290 they were real savage! i.e. remember the “finally, you must ask your leader to stand in front of our army, bend over and kiss is own ****!” Well apparently Longshanks sent his damn tax collector to Stirling (as he wasn’t taking the situation as serious as he should) Wallace did slaughter him, skinned him and used some nice cuts of skin to make a Knife holder lol
5) The “Twice as long as a man” spear was created Centuries before this took place.
6) Claymores, Battle Ax etc did not exist at this point (But i guess fighting with wooden pitchforks would have been less exciting to watch)
7) The two Noblemen Wallace slaughtered never existed, but it’s said that the ones who did, left Falkirk either out of making a deal or out of fear… the latter more likely as it was a slaughter even if they helped! and no revenge was taken!
8) The French Princess was about 6yrs old during all of this. When she did come of age (about 8yrs after Wallaces death). She was known as the “She Wolfe of France” for being so vicious, did marry Edward 2, asked him to give up his thrown for their son Eward 3(which they had together), when Ed2 refused she had him arrested and killed. Then later decided to invade Scotland herself. She and Wallace were never known to have met.
9) “Premanaucta” (you know what I mean) was never ordered
10) Wallace was known to have a girlfriend of some sorts,He actually came from a family with some money and decent status. For this it was his duty to swear allegiance to the King of England. He refused, which made him and outlaw. His hideout for himself and his troops was this womans house. She warned Wallace of then coming and he made his escape with his soldiers but Murron and her family weren’t so lucky. The Sherrif met his demise after this, and would have been lucky to just have his throat cut, but in reality was slice into pieces!
11) Longshanks died two years after Wallace’s execution. and Scotland (under Robert the Bruce) finally won their freedom at Bannockburn after warring with the English for 8 years after Wallaces death (meaning he wouldn’t have had to ask them to “bleed with him”)
12) Wallace had a partner in crime in the beginning of things in reality. A guy named Moray, all the way until Stirling where he was hit by a stray arrow… made it home and died a month later from the wound…ouch!
side note: with no way to heal infection every wound must have been painstaking back then… doing long after and no doubt a lot of pain!
