Anyone have a good idea on a science fair project for a kindergartner? Due 11/29/2007?

She likes bugs and animals. She is in kindergarten. No specifics on how the project should be set up (hypothesis, conclusions, steps etc). Have done a google search. Didnt see anything that would interest her. So was just looking for some suggestions.

Since she likes bus, could an ant farm work as a project? Or earth worms in a clear container.

Does she have a pet? Let her feed the pet different foods (Canned, dry, treats) and see what the pet likes best. Take pictures of the pet eating.

Visit a farm or zoo. Have her compare fur/feathers on animals. Take pictures and have samples of soft (kittens fur) and rough (goats hair).

I used to teach K and we did projects as a class. We collected different kinds of leaves and seeds in the fall. We kept track of the weather on a calendar by drawing pictures. We planted seeds and put the pots in various locations to see which grew best.

How about testing the hypothesis that kindergarten-aged kids are too young to be required to do science fair projects? The whole idea is for the child, at an appropriate age, to develop and discover. If the parent is designing the whole project, maybe it’s too early. IMHO.

I did one when I was a kid that was to test which bubble gum flavor lasted the longest. Or you could do it based on which one stretches the longest etc. Since she is in kindergarten, it’s fun and makes it fun and interesting i.e. Science board with gum pieces stuck to it.

Presuming adult supervision, vinegar and bicarb in a jar, pour the resulting gas – for CO2 – into a candle lantern to snuff it out. Candles are guaranteed to get the attention of any young child.

buy a white carnation and put it in a glass of water colored with food coloring. The flower will pick up the color she chose.

or a stalk of celery in a jar filled with some ink. The celery will soak up the ink only where the ribs are (the stringy stuff)

How about things that sink and things that float? Thats pretty basic stuff for a Kindergartener.
