(2x-8)/4 = (-x-2)/2

First, multiply each side by 4, this will simplify the equation.

2x-8 = 2(-x-2)

2x – 8 = -2x -4

Add 2x to both sides.

4x – 8 = -4

Add 8 to both sides:

4x = 4

Divide both sides by 4

x = 1

since both are fractions just cross-multiply (when you cross multiply, you multiply the numerator from one side of the equation to the denominator of the opposite side of the equation)

in the equation: multiply (2x-8) to 2, then multiply (-x-2) to 4

we will arrive at this equation:

2(2x-8) = 4(-x-2)

now multiply 2 to 2x and 8; multiply 4 to -x and -2

4x-16 = -4x-8 (2*2x=4x, 2*-8=-16; 4*-x= -4x, 4*-2= -8)

4x+4x=16-8 transpose -4x and -16 (so that we can combine like terms; when you transpose you just move it to the other side of the equation however the signs will change; in this case, -4x becomes 4x and -16 becomes 16)

8x = 8 (4x+4x=8x ; 16-8=8)

x=1 dividing both sides by 8, we will get 1 as the value of x

(2x-8) / 4 = (-x-2) / 2

now cross multiply i.e.

2 * (2x-8) = 4 * (-x-2)

now open the brackets by multiplying i.e.(hope u know the fundas in maths( – * – = + ), (+ * + = +) , (+* – = -)

4x – 16 = -4x -8

now bring x’s on one side & numercis on another i.e

4x+4x = -8+16 (when we interchange , the signs got changed)

now add all

8x = 8

x = 8/8

x = 1

“(2x-8)/4=(-x-2)/2

2x/4-8/4=-x/2-2/2

x/2-2=-x/2-1

x/2+x/2=-1+2

x=1
