xy=240
2)xy=240, so x=240/y
3) substitute 240/y back into 1st equation and get
240/y + y =31 (multiply every term by y)
240 + y^2=31y (rearrange to equal zero)
y^2-31y+240=0
4) Use quadratic equation to get the two values. It will work.
