Determine which two equations represent perpendicular lines (a) y = 4/7 x – 3 (b) y = 3x – 4/7 y = -1/3 x + 4/7

(b) and (c). this is because for perpendicular lines, the gradients of the two lines, when multiplied, should equal -1.

e.g. gradient of (b) is 3. gradient of (c) is -1/3. Multiply them and you get -1.. of course this hold true only for straight lines of the formula y=mx+c. (m being gradient and c being the y-intercept)..
