Identify the rate in the statment ” 260 is 52% of 500.”

can someone help me out with this? I don’t understand the question……

I am pretty sure the rate is 52% because that is the percentage rate.

This is what I would do. 260 divided by 500 equals 52 over 100. That would be the verbal mathematical expression. The algebraic would be 260/500 =52/100 which equals 52% so My guess is that 52 percent would be the percentage rate if that is what they want to know. Just did this a week ago in my algebra class.

I think you’re probably over-thinking this one. A rate is simply a relationship between two numbers. Rates are characterized by the division operation. So the rate here is 260/500.

It makes it easier to think about if you apply units to the numbers. For example, think of the numerator in terms of “men” and the denominator in terms of “people” so the observed rate in this scenario is that there are 260 men per every 500 people.
