Algebra Help?

I have to Plot a point on a graph, but I don’t know where to

Point a plot other than (4, -3) on the line with slope m=0 that passes through the point (4, -3)

(4,3) is already pointed on the graph by the way, what do I do to solve this?

The slope of a line is defined as it’s rise/run. with this being said that means it rises 0 points for every point of run. this means that the line is horizontal. Since you know that one point is (4, -3) and that it is a horizontal line. then we can say that any X coordinate will fall on that line at an elevation of -3.

In other words:

(4,-3)

(0,-3)

1000000, -3)

All these points fall on this line.

By the way (4,3) is not a point on the line, don’t let that screw you up.

Hai Lamar,

The slope of a line is the tangent of the angle made by the line with the x-axis.

Slope m = 0, means the tangent of the angle made by the line with the x-axis is 0. Tangent of the angle is 0, when the angle is 0.

Therefore, any line with slope m = 0, will be parallel to the x-axis; i.e., the y co-ordinate of all the points on the line are same.

You already have (4, 3) marked on the graph.

First, you have to mark the given point on the line, i. e., (4, -3).

From (4, 3) count(or measure) 6 units vertically downwards and mark that point. The new point is (4, -3).

From this point(4, -3), draw a line horizontal to the x-axis. This is the required line.

Mark any point on the line, As already mentioned, the y co-ordinate of all the points on this line will be -3. So the co-ordinates of the points on the line are (a, -3).

Value of “a” for the given point is 4.

You have to find the Value of “a” for the other point to be marked.

Mark any point on the line. Count distance units from the new point to the point (4, -3). Let the distance be “b” units.

If the new point is to the left of the point (4, -3), then, the value of “a” = 4-b.

If the new point is to the right of the point (4, -3), then, the value of “a” = 4+b.

Try plotting (4,3) 1st, then draw a line through both (4,-3), and (4,3). Then locate another point on that line.

The x-axis goes from left to right, the y-axis goes up and down. You start on the x-axis and go right 4 and down to -3 and plot the point. You should be able to draw a line between the two points. The line should be straight up and straight down with a slope of 0. Now, any point along that line should have a slope of 0. Try (4,2) or (4,-2).

Pick any point that is on the horizontal line. It can be (any number, -3)

The slope can be referred to as the amount of rise/amount of run…..with a slope of zero, it is zero rise and all run. That is how we know it is a horizontal line.

Going on and on about it will confuse you, so basically, if there isn’t a slope, the line will either be horizontal or vertical. if it’s x=whatever, the line is vertical from that point in both directions. if it’s y=whatever, the line horizonal from that point in both directions.

If the sope is zero it is a flat line. All the ys are -3. So (anything,-3).
