Let x == the number of quarters
x is also the number of dimes
Let n = the number of nickels
We need to set up two equations:
Number of coins:
x + x + n = 50
2x + n = 50
n = 50 – 2x
Total of the money:
25x + 10x + 5n = 500
Substitute for n in the second equation:
35x + 5(50 – 2x) = 500
35x + 250 – 10x = 500
25x = 250
x = 10 dimes and 10 quarters
n = 50 – 2x
n = 50 – 2(10)
n = 50 -20 = 30 nickels

ok, this was a hard question, but you’ve got to try using diff numbers. It says that you’ve got the same amount of dimes and quarters. Plus you have a total of 50 coins.
so lets try 15 dimes, 15 quarters and 20 nickels:
15x10cents= 1.50
15x25cents=3.75
20x5cents=1
Total: $6.25
If the amount is too high you’ve got to lower the amount of dimes and quarters.
here’s the answer:
10 dimes, 10 quarters, and 30 nickels
I hope you understood the question:)
