Let L= the lesser number and G= the greater number.

G-L=33 and 3G-4L=62

G-L=33 converts to G=L+33

Using substitution you get 3(L+33)-4L=62

Solving for L…. 3L+99-4L=62

……………………. -L+99=62

……………………. -L=-37

……………………. L=37

Plug in value for L to find G.

G-37=33

Solve for G.

G=70

G=70 and L=37

Let the smaller number be X and the larger number by Y. So you have the equations:

Y – X = 33

3Y – 4X = 62

You can solve them simultaneously.

Y = 70

X = 37

Ok. so number A-B=33

B is the lesser #

3A-4B=62

Add the two equations:

A-B=33

3A-4B=62

Multiply the A-B=33 by -3

you get -3A+3B=-99

add it to 3A-4B=62

you get -B=-37

B=37*

A-37=33

A=100*
