Its an anecdote, like the sort of thing you would see in Reader’s Digest. There is an invention called the dictionary that can be helpful in answering questions like these. Consider investing in one.

It depends on who is asking. On a test the answer is most likely anecdote – a story. At home the answer is a monologue, typically by a father, and often filled with asides about bad things that can happen.

Once, I knew this kid who used the internet to find all of his answers instead of thinking or learning the stuff himself. Turns out later, when he really had to work for a living, he failed miserably…tough break…for him.
