It’s just an matter of order of operations (solving the problems in the right order). If you’re unsure of what this is then look in your book or search it on the Internet to find out the rules.

4(2+3)+3(4+5)

4(5)+3(4+5)

4(5)+3(9)

20+3(9)

20+27

47

The symbol for exponentiation is generally ^

4(2+3) + 3(2^2 + 5)

4(5) + 3(4 + 5)

20 + 3(9)

20 + 27

47

Cheers!

Do the things in parentheses first… add 2+3, and add 2 squared and 5. Then multiply those answers with the things OUTSIDE the parentheses… for instance, 4(2+3) is the same as 4(5), which means 4 times 5.

Hope that helps!
