Emily scored 50% higher on the SAT than Joshua. This means that?

A. Joshua score was 50% lower than emily

b. Joshua score was half of emily

c. Joshua score was two thirds of emily

The answer is c)

If Emily scored 50% higher than Joshua, she scored 50% more, or half as much again. Which in turn means that Joshua had two thirds of Emily’s score.

Here’s an example to show what I mean:

If Emily’s score was 150, then Joshua’s must have been 100.

If Emily scored 75, then Joshua scored 50.

If Joshua scored 20 then Emily scored 30.
