For starters, no, they can’t refuse to let you enroll in public school because you were homeschooled in the past. Your grade placement will depend on a combination of factors, including your age, your tested skill levels, and the special programs for which you qualify and that your school district has to offer. You may be enrolled in the grade that is appropriate for your age, but be placed in classes for your skill level. In our district, that is the most likely scenario. So if your reading was strong but your math not so hot, you might be in an honors English class but a remedial math program until you catch up. (Right now I can tell you that your writing is NOT strong.) Don’t worry about not “finishing.” Your skills and age are the most important considerations. And what you were already told about high school placement by credits is correct.

They will test you to be sure you are in the right grade. Usually you test out for the grade you should be going into. Outside chance you’ld have to repeat the grade you didn’t finish, but never back 2 grades.

Helps if you spell things correctly: ryte (right) and your (you’re)

Depends on your school district, so I’d call them and ask what their policy is on homeschoolers entering the school (Do NOT tell them you didn’t finish your work, it’s highly likely that you’re on par or ahead of the public school anyway)

For example, in our district if you are under 8th grade, they just put you in with your age group, and have tutoring to catch you up. If you are in highschool, you’ll be tested to see which classes you should be in. Besides english, most of the classes are not dependent on age anyway, but on desire and ability. math, science, history are all contingent on test scores.

The curriculum you use at home is not like the public school curriculum’s.

In the public schools they do not finish the textbooks either.

Some school will give you a placement test to see where you are at according to them, and some do not even do that much.

Take a wait and see approach, get the details first, you have nothing to gain by getting worried over what is still to come.

you might go back a few grades when homeschooling youmust keep up if you try to go back to public schools they will test you to see what grade level you are in and then all the homeschooling you did was for nothing good luck

Probably you can be tested and as long as you score well be placed into the grade you would be going into if nothing unusual had ever happened. The exception would be if it is High School, then you will placed according to your credits. You didn’t say what grade you are supposed to be in so its hard to say, but I doubt you will held back 2 years unless you just didn’t study at all.

It really depends on what grade your in, what state your in, and other possible factors. If you’re in a high school, and didn’t complete any credits, then you would have to repeat those courses. At lower grades, most schools would test your for placement. State law varies on exact procedures.

Completely depends on your state, but generally, if you do not have a transcript (why bother showing one that says “incomplete”) they will either opt to test you on that year in order to place you where you should be or opt to hold you back to complete the year you missed.

If they want to test you, ask for study materials, and realize you will probably be taking CBE’s (credit by exams) Make sure understand EXACTLY what you will be tested over.

The best thing to do is to check your ISD website or your state education agency website for information on “admissions policy for homeschool students”

good luck

According to the state you are in, they might just test you to see your aptitude and ability. Ask them about it. You will really need to buckle down and study hard this year to catch up. Good luck to you.
