Expand your horizon’s past 5 hours of riding your horse.

Join 4H and take advantage of all they offer; like speech and debate, archery, 22 (shooting),cooking classes, photography, art, or other live stock projects, anything that requires team work so you can get to know the other teens over time.

How about a part-time job, or community college classes?

Church; youth groups, or volunteer ministries.

Attend literary, or poetry evenings at your local library.

Join a bowling league, swim team, the sky is the limit.

Do more than just ride your horse. Study a new ( and difficult ) topic in homeschool, join a youth group, take an art class at a community center, see if you can do dual enrollment at a community college, get together with friends, join a gym, read, give horse back riding lessons to other homeschoolers (maybe make a little money at it too.) Be creative, what kinds of things look fun to you? Try to find a way to do them.

Study more. Do indepdent studies. Read books, Watch Disscovery, Science, History.

Get additional hobbies going. Maybe buy a telescope and do some observational astronomy (there’s an eclipse coming up on Aug 28th, I believe).

Get a copy of Visual Basic of E-bay for $30 and learn how to programm.

Get an older copy of Photoshop on e-bay for $30 and learn how to touch up photos.

Get a guitar and learn how to play it.

Now, I’ve just expanded our homeschooling ciriculum with unschooling in Earth Science, Computer Science, Digital Arts and Music.

Love the idea that you should ‘leave it to the pros’ i.e. school teachers. People who perpetrate the myth obviously don’t know that a number of US States have been challenged in the courts to provide the evidence that qualified teachers are better than non-qualified teachers (parents) and on every occasion they have failed to do so.

As for things to do, you probably just need to vary your routine a bit. If you don’t already do so, try swapping some of the time spent riding for swimming and running – both will help your riding. Also make sure you have some hobbies and interests away from riding!

I’d say volunteer somewhere … help a mom’s group with child care, work a senior program, Humane society. You might be able to work it out for an internship at a vet’s office or something else you might want to pursue. Switching your life up one or two days a week might be just the thing.

Start a website to show off your accomplishments and network with othe HSs, too.

Take up a hobby. Find something interesting and start doing that when you find yourself being bored.

Maybe something to do with your hands. Wood carving, embroidery, cooking, building models, whatever you have an interest in.

Or if you are looking for something more to work your brain, Sudokus, cross word puzzles, or books on subjects you want to know more about.

Probably stop practising 5 hours a day.

Go to the library. Randomly take books from various areas. Expand your knowledge a bit and your interests will follow suit.

Why not ask whoever is homeschooling you? If they are smart enough to teach you, they are smart enough to give you ideas about what to occupy your time.

go to public school… leave teaching to the pros AND have a social life with friends…
